Brian began with American Financial in 1999 after having been in the industry since 1992. Before American Financial he co-founded The Brokers Edge in 1994. In 2005, he successfully co-founded Renaissance Annuity Group, which partnered with American Financial in 2008.
A native of North Dakota, Brian moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota, where he received a B.S. in Economics. Currently Brian uses his experience and feedback from producers he works with to develop marketing initiatives for the company. He especially enjoys the relationships he has established in the field and contributing to the sucess of those he works with directly.
Brian met his wife Lisa in New Zealand during his service with the United States Navy. They have been married for 30 years and have two boys, Jay and Sean. Brian makes time to golf, run, and spend time at his cabin on Nelson Lake.
Todd started his insurance career in 1998 as a personal insurance producer. He joined the American Financial team in 2014 after working in the home office of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America for almost 13 years. Todd attended the Minnesota State University in Mankato. He holds his Life and Health Insurance license and has earned the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor designation (CRPC®).
Todd’s goal is to help producers assist their clients prepare for retirement by offering income solutions. He is focused on building strong, long lasting relationships through trust and becoming someone you can depend on for quality assistance. He understands that every producer has different skills and a way they desire to run their business. It is his pleasure to work with producer to identify how the resources at American Financial can help them to achieve and sustain success based upon their vision.
Todd has been married to his wife, Betty, for over 25 years. They have raised two sons, Tony and Joe, who are now both in their twenties. He is an avid golfer and you will find Todd and his wife golfing every weekend if the temperature is above 39° and there is no snow on the ground. When he is not golfing, you can find him hunting or fishing in beautiful northern Minnesota.
Brad joined the American Financial team in 2010 as an annuity wholesaler. Raised in Iowa, Brad moved to Minnesota to attend Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, where he received a degree in Youth Ministries. Brad’s business journey began in 2006 as a financial advisor for Amerirprise Financial and left to become an Independent advisor in 2009 with Woodbury Financial.
Brad finds his motivation in finding a proper outcome for each client and case. He finds it most rewarding when a case comes together and gets achieved. The ideas and concepts that Brad brings to the table add a great value to American Financial, and are recognized through strong trust and relationships with his clients.
Brad married his high school sweetheart, Christy, in 2005. In 2010 they had their first son William (Liam). In the spring of 2013 they welcomed their second son Hudson. When Brad is not spending time with his family or working, you can find him golfing, running, biking, or playing with his dogs Kota and Kinnick. Brad and his family also spend time volunteering for varies activities at their church and they make trips back to Iowa often to see family and take in Hawkeye games!
Brent came to American Financial in 2005 after having been with the insurance agency at TCF Bank since 1991. He double-majored in Marketing and Management while at Mankato State University in Minnesota and holds both P & C and Life & Health Insurance licenses.
Brent’s dedication to his craft is what makes him stand out. An early riser, he takes time each morning to brush up on product specs, learn about new sales ideas, and review notes that he has taken on phone conversations. Brent has a passion for presenting useful concepts to producers he works with and takes pride in knowing that his careful retirement income case strategies helps his contacts in the field gain referral business along with providing clients with a true source of lifetime income through annuities.
Brent and his wife Darcy have two daughters, Tori and Chloe. On the weekends Brent likes to spend time with his family at their cabin. He also likes to go to Vikings and Wild games, hunt, and like so many Minnesotans – go ice fishing.
Jeremy joined American Financial in 2001 after working as a registered representative at John Hancock. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Jeremy went on to receive a B.A. from St. John’s University, a prestigious liberal arts college in Collegeville, MN. Jeremy holds his Life & Health Insurance license.
Jeremy is a motivated self-starter who takes pride in the service and guidance that he provides financial professionals he works with. As outgoing as he is, it’s no surprise that his favorite part of his role at American Financial is meeting new financial professionals, playing a part in helping their clients achieve their financial goals and being introduced to other agents that he can create sustainable relationships with. Jeremy has been around long enough and devotes enough attention to detail to recognize flawed sales ideas or products. His goal is to deliver proven techniques to financial professionals, which help them in their efforts to foster trust and loyalty with clients.
Jeremy and his wife Jamie are the proud parents of Alexandra, born in the spring of 2008, AJ (Andrew Joseph), born in February 2010, and Jackson, born in the summer of 2013. He enjoys watching his daughter at dance class and is a coach for football, baseball, and hockey. When he’s not chasing the kids around the house, Jeremy likes to golf and fish with his kids.
Joe came to American Financial in 2012 after working as a Sales Rep for a successful manufacturer’s representative. A former Tommie, Joe graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in business. Growing up, Joe’s father was not only a great role model but also a great mentor by having over 30 years of financial professional experience. This was also one of the strongest drivers for Joe to come into this business.
Joe currently holds his insurance license and is working on his Certified Financial Professional® (CFP) designation. He enjoys focusing on helping financial professionals find retirement income solutions for their clients, and is passionate about discovering appropriate solutions for his client’s needs.
When Joe is out of the office you can find him at his family’s lake cabin, fishing or perfecting his golf game. When most people are hiding inside from the Minnesota winters, Joe embraces the cold and finds enjoyment in skiing or snowmobiling. His favorite sports are baseball and football.
Brian got his start with American Financial in January of 2004 after spending seven years at Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America as a member of the FASTeam and as a senior marketing and training consultant. He spent most of his youth in Colorado before attending Northwestern College in Roseville, MN where he earned a B.S. in Biology and the Bible. Brian served on active duty from 1993 to 1997 and was deployed to Iraq in 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired as a Major from the United States Army in 2011.
Brian establishes long-lasting, deep relationships with his producers. He asks the right questions to find out the client’s financial goals and then systematically identifies a number of strategies for the client to choose from. He understands the importance of a well-designed, individualized retirement strategy and how it can be of tremendous importance to a client’s financial well-being. He prides himself in being someone his producers can count on for quality and timely assistance, something that can be elusive these days.
Brian and his wife Angie live in a suburb of Minneapolis with their sons Logan and Riley. While away from the office, Brian spends time with his family and is an avid hunter and fisherman.
Prior to joining the team at American Financial Marketing (AFM) Todd served as Chief Distribution Officer for Personalized Brokerage Services (PBS). Todd was responsible for the day-to-day sales and operations of PBS including both working with clients and coaching and mentoring the PBS Sales, Marketing and Operations teams. Todd loves working and building relationships with financial professionals across the country as they grow their practices. He joined PBS in 2009 after a career as an independent financial advisor.
Todd earned degrees in behavioral science and leadership studies from the University of Kansas and completed his Masters of Business Administration from Baker University. In 2015, Todd earned his Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designation.
Outside of work, Todd loves spending time with his wife, Bree, and their three children, Max, Kate, and Lucy and is an avid University of Kansas basketball fan.
Prior to joining American Financial Marketing (AFM), Craig served as the Vice President of Annuity Sales for Personalized Brokerage Services (PBS). Craig has worked for the past 20 years in the financial services industry, including 5 years as a registered representative with New York Life.
Craig utilizes his experience out in the field to help his financial professionals overcome roadblocks and obstacles to grow their practice and, most importantly, meet the needs of their clients. Craig enjoys the responsibility of being someone who can analyze complex financial scenarios and developing strategies that help consumers meet their financial dreams.
On a personal note, Craig was born and raised in Detroit, MI. Graduated from the University of Kansas and Craig and his wife Sarah are proud parents of their four children (Luke, Caroline, Lydia and Cade).
Our team of support personnel is deep and experienced. Again, like others at American Financial, these individuals come with experience and commitment that is uncommon to say the least… they are the heart and soul of the firm!
Nicole joined American Financial in 2012. Prior to her transition to the American Financial team Nicole was an inside sales rep for six years at a distribution company. Nicole was born and raised in Plymouth Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota.
When dealing with clients, Nicole’s primary focus is building and maintaining relationships while solving client’s needs through excellent service. One of the greatest rewards Nicole receives through clients is getting to know a variety of personalities.
Nicole is married to her husband, Christian. When Nicole is not spending time with her family and friends she is traveling, painting or doing photography.
Paul joined American Financial in 2003 after working at LifeUSA since the late 1980s. He holds his Life & Health Insurance license and is an extremely reliable member of our Annuity Support Team.
Throughout his career he has held various positions ranging from Recruiting, Marketing, Support, and Relationship Management. He is very knowledgeable in the area of fixed annuities and supports the field with product information, case design, application review prior to carrier submission, suitability questions, follow-ups, and stepping in when a case goes off track. Paul works to find answers for your client needs, cutting through the red tape and getting policies issued so agents can get paid faster.
While away from the office, Paul most enjoys spending time with his daughter. He is also interested in aviation, architecture and history.
Tracy joined American Financial in 2000 as a receptionist and has transitioned through contracting, new business and currently into annuity support. Tracy is an expert when it comes to customer service and problem solving. These skills allow her to build and maintain strong relationships with agents in the field as well as with staff at insurance companies.
Tracy has a talent for discovering all the client’s needs and finding an appropriate product for their unique situation. Tracy is a problem solver that does not seek solutions in pushing a specific product or company but rather finding the good fit for each case is what motivates Tracy most.
When Tracy is not in the office you can find her spending time with her family and friends. Tracy’s favorite thing to do with her time off is to travel. Having traveled most of the United States, you can find in her passport stamps from Europe, Thailand, Mexico and Canada. She plans to continue filling her passport and looking forwards to embarking on new adventures.
Barrie came to American Financial in 2004. She began her career at LifeUSA two days after graduating from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in the Spring of 1993. She is originally from Madeline Island, Wisconsin and holds her Life and Health insurance license.
A savvy veteran with an eye for detail, Barrie is an outspoken innovator on our support team that always considers how we can raise the level of service that we offer producers. She continues to work in the industry because she simply likes helping agents.
Barrie and her husband Stuart have two young children; Erica and Cameron. She is a loving mother and always has a fun story about her kids. Barrie is charitably involved in organizations that research a cure for Leukemia and being from Wisconsin, Barrie has several Green Bay Packers charms at her desk.
Karen joined American Financial in December of 2013. She began her career at Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America in May of 2002 on the annuity new business team. Karen has built and maintains strong relationships with agents in the field as well as with staff at insurance companies.
She takes pride in providing the best customer service possible. Karen’s primary focus is answering questions from producers regarding applications, forms, and suitability. She also works with many different carriers to ensure the efficiency of business being processed.
Karen and her husband Eric have one young daughter, Kaitlyn. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Scrapbooking is one of her hobbies and she loves going to the theatre with her mother and daughter.
Angela began with the firm in August 2014 after more than a decade working in the sales and recruiting industries. In her prior position, she was recognized for 11 consecutive years in the top one percent for sales in her organization. Prior to working in sales, Angela was the Public Relations Manager for a manufacturing company and also worked on the East Coast in the nonprofit sector.
As Project Manager, Angela helps in a variety of capacities including marketing, contracting and licensing, broker dealer relationships, administration and sales support. She is proactive and loves helping producers impact the lives of their clients through providing back office support.
Angela earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas. She and her husband Thomas have four children and two grandchildren.
This group works with a veritable arsenal of carriers. The Life Team specializes in fixed index universal life insurance as well as premium finance transactions. Our LTCi team members stand ready to help in placing any and all LTCi applications.
Rusty joined American Financial in 2004 bringing 12 years of experience serving clients as a captive agent focusing on life insurance, annuities and mutual funds, and 4 years of experience as a marketer of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America.
At American Financial Rusty’s focus is on life insurance. He enjoys working on case design for producers and developing possible solutions. With more than 20 years of experience as a producer/marketer, Rusty knows that case design support allows agents to spend more time with their clients and prospects creating opportunity.
Rusty grew up in Crystal, Minnesota and served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police Corps. Rusty and his wife Leslie enjoy spending time with their 7 children and 2 grandchildren at their horse farm on theMississippi River. He volunteers with the Men of Faith group mentoring other men and youths.
Gail has been a Long Term Care Insurance (LTCi) sales consultant since coming to American financial in 2003. She began in the financial services industry with Prudential in 1976 as a field auditor before moving to their marketing department. Gail decided to focus on LTCi because she believes deeply in the need for these products. She feels that it is important to consider building LTCi into financial plans because it helps protect retirement assets that clients have worked hard to accumulate from excessive medical care costs.
Gail graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration; she also holds the RICP®, CLTC and FLMI designations. Whether Gail is explaining concepts, providing sales tips or helping with case design she really likes going the extra mile for the producers that she works with.
She and her husband Doug have been married since 1978. They have four grown children and two grandsons. In her spare time, Gail enjoys being with her family, golfing and following the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Jill began working at American Financial in 1998 shortly after receiving her A.A. in Marketing/Management. She is very personable and works hard to take care of agents’ contracting issues.
She and her husband are proud parents of two young sons Hunter and Tyler. When they are not spending time with family, Jill and her husband enjoy catching a movie, riding four-wheelers and fishing.
In his role as Senior VP of Life Insurance at American Financial Marketing, Peter Lofgren works to help agents effectively market and close life insurance cases by providing ideas and support based on years of “in the trenches” wholesaling experience. His primary goal in working with producers is to provide practical, client-centered training and creative ideas aimed at growing new revenue.
Peter joined American Financial following a successful, 14 year tenure with Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, where he served as the East Region's Life Regional VP for nearly a decade. Though his main specialization has been in fixed index universal life insurance products and the different types of client challenges those products can solve, he has worked with a variety of different product types and concepts. During his time as RVP, the territories Peter managed cumulatively produced over $70 million in target FIUL premium.
Peter holds bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and English from Gustavus Adolphus College, and has held a MN Life, Accident & Health license since 2003. He lives in Maple Grove,MN with his wife Sarah and their two children, Dean and Eve. Outside the office, Peter enjoys coaching and playing hockey, distance running, fishing and hunting.
Chris joined American Financial in 2010 as the Field Compliance Officer (FCO) and became the Field Suitability Officer (FSO) in 2013. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the life insurance, broker-dealer, and investment adviser industry. As FCO, Chris assists American Financial in complying with the various Advertising and Compliance requirements for each of the insurance carriers we represent by enhancing our internal processes and conducting on-going monitoring. As FSO, he works with members of the Annuity Team to keep them informed of the suitability requirements for each carrier; facilitating the timely and thorough review of applications submitted to the FMO prior to being submitted to the carrier.
Prior to joining American Financial Chris was the Chief Compliance Officer for bank and hedge fund affiliated investment advisers and a broker-dealer where he was responsible for establishing, and maintaining, the compliance programs for each firm. He spent the initial 12 years of his career with Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.
Chris received his Juris Doctor from Capital University and his Bachelor of Arts from Ohio State University. Chris and his family live in St. Louis Park, MN.
Brian joined American Financial in 2012 bringing over 20 years of industry experience to the firm. He is responsible for helping financial professionals understand and uncover the opportunities that exist in the wealth accumulation, distribution, and legacy markets as well as developing strategies that increase the value that financial professionals bring to their clients.
Prior to joining American Financial, Brian was with Prudential Annuities. During his tenure with Prudential, he led Prudential’s Advanced Markets team helping Prudential become an industry leader in the sale of annuities. Additionally, Brian spent three years with The Hartford's Retirement and Wealth Consulting team. There he traveled the country working with financial professionals to understand the challenges of income strategies. Brian also spent 10 years with Woodbury Financial Services where he developed the broker/dealer’s life insurance product offering and led the firm’s Advanced Markets team.
Brian received his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law where he graduated Cum Laude. He also received degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of Minnesota. Brian has his Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor and Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist designations from the College for Financial Planning. He also holds the Retirement Income Certified Professional designation from the The American College. Brian and his family live in the Twin Cities and spend a lot of their time at their cabin in northern Wisconsin.
